They don't behave out of pride or spiritual desire, but from love—the finest sort, because it considers number separation between home and other.

One of the most profound areas of the nondual instructor is their capability to interrupt our profoundly presented beliefs, perhaps not with violence, but with clarity. Their issues reduce through dream: Who are you currently before thought? What stays whenever you release wanting to become? Who is the one seeking enlightenment? These inquiries do not provide answers in the standard sense; as an alternative, they dismantle the psychological scaffolding we've created about identity. In this dismantling, what stays may be the ease of being itself—ungraspable, however intimately known.

Nondual teachers usually highlight that the trip is not merely one of self-improvement, but self-recognition. This can be profoundly disorienting to seekers who've used decades cultivating spiritual techniques directed at "bettering" the self. Alternatively, the instructor lightly blows interest from energy and toward awareness—the unchanging history where energy arises and dissolves. There's a continuing going back, again and again, to this consciousness: much less an object to notice, but as the very substance of mind, beyond subject and object.

Their surprise isn't enlightenment, but the end of the dream so it was actually elsewhere.
